Pass Labs DIY First Watt F5 mono-blocks

Picture
"A push-pull Class A amplifier, utilizing JFETs and MOSFETs in a very simple two stage complementary circuit.
No capacitors anywhere in the circuit. (except in the power supply, of course!)
The distortion is very low, between .001% and .005% at 1 watt."

Dual mono-block design, with heat pipe based heat-sinks.
Sounds excellent. When paired with proper speakers, there are no speakers, just music.

Powering Ts in a 3 way configuration.

LM3886 dual mono

Picture
Well known LM3886 in non-inverting configuration.
Two mono-blocks in shared chassis.
Standard passive cooling.

Powering Ws in a 3 way configuration.

I am considering upgrading the amplifier to F5 Turbo Dual Monoblocks.

Autotuba - Folded Horn

Picture
Can a 8" long throw woofer outperform a 12" sealed sub? Yes it can, in a horn. High efficiency combined with low THD.

MUCH MORE complex to build than a sealed or ported box
, but WORTH the extra effort.

Design by Bill Fitz Maurice, plans available for purchase at his site.

One for my wife, one for me.

15" Dayton Sub-woofer

Picture
Project for my brother-in-law.
15" 4 ohm sub with 89 dB sensitivity powered by 240W plate amp. Sealed box.

He likes it, his wife does not.

FUTURE PROJECTS:

Tube Amp

Picture
I always wanted a tube amp...

So, my birthday is in October... ;) But seriously, it's on my bucket list.

If you want one too, you can get a kit online. Just watch out for the high voltage.

4 Way speakers

Picture
One day ;)

Will not be as overpowered, but SWMTMWS seems like a place to start.

WHY Do It Yourself?

Picture
it's a lot of fun
learn new skills
get a better return on investment (assumes your time costs 0$)
sometimes, you got the addition in the DNA (that's my maternal grandfather on the pic)
